Drug and alcohol addiction impacts on all our lives with serious economic, social and public health consequences. Addiction affects one's sense of self, both mentally and physically, causing depression and alienation, anger and despair. Addiction also impacts on wider society: devastating family life, terminating careers, increasing unemployment and threatening health.

Currently Australia is the world leader in needle exchange and methadone maintenance programs. While both are effective strategies for harm minimisation, Addiction Treatment and Psychology Service's program is abstinence based. Until recently, achieving long-term abstinence has had little success; due to low compliance to treatment programs and high drop out rates. Our program offers a treatment alternative for some who are dependent on heroin, methadone or other drugs of addiction.
